An inclusive forum for research on learning and academic administration

Our aim

The International Conference on Learning and Administration in Higher Education exists to give scholars a quality, peer reviewed venue that is open to the full range of researchers working on learning and on the administration of higher education. We want the meetings we run to be known for rigour and for generosity in equal measure.

Higher education is studied from many directions. Some colleagues examine the classroom, some examine the office of the department chair, and some examine the space between the two. ICLAHE treats all of that work as part of a single conversation about how institutions help people learn.

Domains of interest

Pedagogy

We invite manuscripts on pedagogical topics. Much of the learning process is not tied to a single subject, and everyone benefits from seeing research and practice from outside their own field. An ideal submission takes a general focus rather than a discipline specific one. A study of motivation in group projects, for instance, speaks to a wider audience when it is framed for upper division courses in general rather than for one subject alone.

Academic administration

We invite manuscripts on the administration of academic units in colleges and universities. Many of the challenges that face academic departments are shared across fields, and learning how different departments meet those challenges is genuinely useful. An ideal paper gives information that administrators can apply regardless of their own discipline.

Conferences

ICLAHE jointly sponsors an annual international conference with Academic Business World, known together as the joint conference. The purpose of the joint meeting is to provide a collegial forum for presenting research and for sharing ideas and experience. A second and equally important aim is to encourage the exchange of ideas between disciplines by bringing professors from many fields together for social and intellectual conversation.

The joint conference has met in Nashville, Tennessee, including a meeting at the Holiday Inn Vanderbilt. Full details of the partner organisation are set out on the Academic Business World page.
